Chair Sue West said the health council provided an opportunity to bring health issues to the attention of Western NSW Local Health District and to help with future planning.
Ms West said health council members played a key role in planning and delivering health services in Bathurst and in the surrounding communities.
“The health council works with managers and clinical staff to identify the health needs of their community from a consumer perspective,” Ms West said.
The Bathurst Health Council is currently recruiting to a number of positions and is calling on members of the community, of all ages and backgrounds to nominate their interest.
“Our health council has a strong community voice and we’re encouraging people from all backgrounds to nominate so we can continue to represent everyone’s interests,” Ms West said.
“We would like to particularly encourage young people and Aboriginal community members to apply.
“Applicants without a health background are very welcome as they are able to bring a truly independent consumer perspective to the health council.”
Ms West said the Bathurst Health Council had been involved in a number of key events and initiatives in the past 12 months in Bathurst.
“The health council has helped to develop a patient brochure, participated in quality improvement activities, art projects and assisted with service redesign,” she said.
“At a minimum, membership requires attendance at monthly meetings of the health council, but there are plenty of opportunities for wider participation in committees and workshops associated with areas of personal interest.
“We provide planning advice to the health service based on our local knowledge. Members are committed to giving the community a voice on issues that affect the health and wellbeing of the local community.”
Application kits can be obtained by contacting Robyn Morrissey at Bathurst Hospital on 6330 5333, or by email to robyn.morrissey@health.nsw.gov.au . Applications close October 9.
