MOTORISTS are urged to allow extra travelling time when leaving Bathurst on Monday with heavy traffic expected following the Bathurst 1000.

RTA Live Traffic issued the warning on Sunday evening after the Great Race came to an end.
“Heavy traffic is expected this Monday morning as motorists head home from Bathurst,” the alert stated.
“Delays are expected on major roads leaving Bathurst including the Great Western Highway towards Sydney.
“Mitchell Highway to Orange, and Mid-Western Highway to Cowra and the Castlereagh Highway to Mudgee.
“Motorists are advised to allow plenty of extra travel time and expect delays.
Near record crowds attended Mount Panorama for the Race Week festival, with Supercars with a total of 206,755 people flocking to the Mount from Thursday to Sunday.
That number surpasses last year’s crowd but falls just 500 spectators short of the record set in 2012, when 207,205 showed up to the 50th anniversary of the Great Race.
