David James Price, 58, of Jack James Close, Butterwick, did not appear before magistrate Follent, who ordered the brief be served and adjourned the matter to November 26.
It was alleged that Price had been forensically linked to the assault before he was charged by Bathurst police last Wednesday.
Police allege that just after midnight on Sunday, July 30, 2006, a then 15-year-old boy left a party in the Cardiff area, west of Newcastle, and was approached by an unknown man in a nearby public toilet block.
The man allegedly forced the boy into a cubicle and sexually and indecently assaulted him.
Police charge sheets outlined the allegations against Price, which included sexual intercourse without consent and allegedly licking the victim’s nipple.
After a period of time, the boy managed to push the man away and run from the toilet block. The boy immediately reported the incident to local police and was taken to hospital for treatment and an examination.
In June this year, detectives received notification of a forensic match in the case and conducted further investigations, with Price arrested last week.
No application for bail was made, which was formally refused by magistrate Follent.
Price will appear via audio-visual link on November 26.
