John Killick, who was plucked from a Sydney jail in a helicopter with the help of his girlfriend almost two decades ago, has faced court over fraud charges related to a chess set and rug.

The 76-year-old, who escaped from Silverwater jail in 1999 and was released on parole more than 15 years later, faced Sydney's Central Local Court on Thursday after his arrest on October 2.
The Milsons Point resident is charged with knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime - a chess set and rug - with intent to conceal, between March 6 and July 4 at Mascot.
He's further charged with dishonestly obtaining the rug in company through the use of a fraudulent credit card, and with having goods suspected of being stolen - the rug and the chess set - on June 26.
Police previously said Killick was the sixth person charged as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged fraud syndicate operating in Sydney.
Strike Force Kurraka was set up to investigate large-scale identity theft and fraud against financial institutions.
On Thursday, Killick's bail - which includes daily reporting to police - was continued and his case adjourned to Downing Centre Local Court on December 6.
Outside court his lawyer, Jeff Chan, said Killick would "vigorously defend" the charges which Mr Chan thought "had been a mistake but will be sorted out".
Killick escaped from Silverwater with the help of his then-girlfriend Lucy Dudko who hijacked a helicopter at gunpoint and flew it into the prison's exercise yard.
The couple were on the run for 45 days before they were captured, with the case making worldwide headlines.
