The Central West AFL may have seen the last of Michael Rothnie on the field – at least for the foreseeable future – leaving everyone who’s ever had to try to tackle the Tigers’ midfielder breathing a sigh of relief.

Rothnie has signed to play with Riverina-based Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong Football Netball Club in 2019, which is where former teammate Josh Bubnich spent his 2018 season.
“I came back to Orange to win a flag and I’ve done that, it’s time for me to move on. I feel like I’m done with this league, I need something with a bit more of a challenge,” he said.
“The Riverina league is a bit stronger so it’ll be a good chance to test myself.”
Rothnie has won four flags at the Tigers since 2013 and notched up his 100th game this year, and arguably doesn’t have much more to achieve in the CWAFL.
“I want to go somewhere where they can match my intensity, they really know their footy down there.”
