Just one day after salvaging the Blues’ first innings with an unbeaten 55, Copeland was leading the way with the ball in his team’s uphill battle against South Australia at Adelaide Oval.
Late on Thursday afternoon the Redbacks managed to pass the Blues’ total of 246 but the Bathurst paceman wasn’t making it easy for them.
He picked up the wicket of opener Jake Weatherald (14) on Wednesday afternoon then returned on Thursday morning in strong form to take the vital scalp of captain Jake Lehmann for 61.
Cameron Valente became Copeland’s 300th first class victim when he departed for 12.
Copeland continued to rattle the Redbacks batting order, ending Harry Nielson’s (36) strong defensive innings, before Joe Mennie and Nick Winter brought stability back into the hosts’ game.
South Australia were sitting on 7-256 at tea on Thursday. Mennie sat on 28 with Winter on 16.
Copeland boasted figures of 4-79 at the time. Steve O’Keefe, Sean Abbott and Daniel Sams claimed the other Blues wickets.
