To help teenagers through the maze of what distinguishes a reliable car from a lemon, students from Kelso High School undertook the Lemon Car Road Safety program recently.
Instructor Mark Poulton took students through the course, showing them what to look out for using a real car with examples.
The course, which is already held all over the state, was undertaken by students at Blayney High, Canowindra and Orange High School before coming to Kelso.
The students were told how to look out for signs a car had previously been in an accident, with different coloured pin striping on the side of a car just one example.
They were also shown examples of balding tyres, a car that's leaking oil and other common problems in lemon cars.
Each student received a worksheet and physically had to go over the car, identifying potential problems.
