Only last week Lynch was named in a 13-man squad to compete at the Under 15s ACT/NSW Country State Challenge in December.
He’s been selected in the Country Thunder, with the State Challenge to act as a final selection trial for the ACT/NSW team that will contest the Cricket Australia Under 15s National Championships next February.
Lynch said he was surprised to have been selected for the side.
“I actually expected to not get picked, because the email was quite late. They said the date would be this, but it came the day after. It was disappointing to think I hadn’t been picked but I got the email, so it was really nice,” he said.
“I’m really happy to be given an opportunity to play in the State Challenge.”
Being selected in the team was a massive achievement for Lynch.
“Look, it’s been a really big goal for me,” he said.
“It’s another step towards the NSW team that is picked from the State Challenge. If I get picked in that, that would be a dream come true.”
Lynch has played the majority of his junior cricket under the guidance of Clint Bryant, since under 12s.
“I think there’s only been one season were he hasn’t coached me, so many of the district seasons and Mitchell seasons I’ve played has been under Clint as coach,” he said.
At a club level, he representatives his school St Stanislaus’ College.
For the 2018-19 season, he’ll represent the team’s first XI.
He described himself as a traditional pace bowler, but this season he’s starting to feel confident with the bat.
“I say I bowl decently quick,” he said.
Lynch cited two international players that he looks up to.
“Mitch Starc. I love his action, he’s really smooth,” he said.
“Otherwise Dale Steyn from South Africa. I like the way he bowls, he’s very fierce and quick.”
The squads for the State Challenge were selected based on key performances at trial matches in Port Macquarie and Young during October.
The Under 13 and Under 14 State Challenge carnivals, held in January, were also used as a basis for selection.
Lynch was selected alongside fellow Western Zone cricketers Tom Coady, George Cumming and Koda Sissian.
Players who get selected for the ACT/NSW Country team to contest the National Championships will travel to Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
