The pair recently met up with a number of ex-workmates at a memorial service in Orange, prompting them to stage a proper reunion outside the often solemn affair of a funeral.
“It was a good family business, and the people who worked there were all pretty close,” Mr Stapley said.
“Some of these guys are 70, 80-odd years old, and it might be their last opportunity to see some of the people they worked with.”
The Edgell factory, today trading as Simplot Bathurst, has been a big part of the city’s manufacturing sector for generations.
As an employee from the 1960s through to the 1990s, Mr Bennetts experienced many of the ups and downs of the company first hand.
“Edgell was a big part of this town,” he said.
“Most people in town would know someone who worked there.”
“They were the biggest employers in Bathurst by a long stretch,” added Mr Stapley.
The pair are hoping for around 60 people to attend the event, and would like to know final numbers by this Friday, November 9.
The lunch will commence at 11:30am and will cost $35.
