The Riverstone trainer watched Blue Boy Mae ($15.20) emerge from a bunched field in the Ladbrokes Daily Video Stakes (307 metres) to see off his more fancied kennel mate Paris Gold ($6.40) by half a length.

You could have thrown a blanket over the field 100 metres into Monday’s race, with the field running dangerously close to one another approaching the turn.

Paris Gold and Copper Pepper were best away from boxes three and four respectively.

Blue Boy Mae got away strongly from the inside and Little Trapeze loomed up on the outside to draw level with the leaders.

At the turn only two lengths covered the entire field of seven.

Something had to give and unfortunately for the race’s two best-backed runners, Be Harvey ($2.10 favourite) and Little Trapeze ($4.60), were squeezed out the back of the pack.

The field began to fracture apart at the midpoint and Blue Boy Mae avoided the knocks to go two lengths clear from Paris Gold.

Arrogant Leo ($7.50) posed a threat on the bend but couldn’t keep pace on the straight, finishing third.

Paris Gold came close to her kennel mate and may have got there if the race was just a few metres longer.

The winning time was 18.15 seconds.

“That 1-2 is a complete shock to me. It’s unbelievable,” Williams said.

“They’re kennel partners who go really good.

“I don’t trial or race them that much. I’m don’t rush them. I’m really happy with these dogs.”

Williams picked up a close second placing in the meeting’s next race with Summer In Motion.
