Australia coach Graham Arnold will announce a 23-man squad for friendlies against South Korea on November 17 and Lebanon three days later in Sydney.
Goodwin, who hasn't played for the Socceroos since 2013, has starred for Adelaide United, scoring seven goals in his past seven games in FFA Cup and A-League.
The winger is expected to be named along with a Scotland-born speedster who is yet to set foot in Australia,
Hibernian winger Martin Boyle, a teammate of Socceroos Mark Milligan and Jamie Maclaren, is likely to feature in the squad.
The 25-year-old trained with the Socceroos before their 4-0 win against Kuwait last month which marked the first game in Arnold's fresh tenure as coach.
Boyle couldn't play against Kuwait, as at the time he didn't have citizenship, but has since been ratified.
The two home friendlies are the last scheduled matches for the Socceroos before their Asian Cup defence next January.
Arnold will test Goodwin and Boyle in the wake of the injury to Daniel Arzani, who requires a knee reconstruction which will rule him out of the continental championship.
Goalkeeper Brad Jones will also be sidelined after suffering concussion in an on-field collision while playing for his United Arab Emirates club side last weekend.
Uncapped Kenny Dougall is another ruled out because of an ankle injury - the Barnsley midfielder was an unused substitute against Kuwait.
Star midfielder Aaron Mooy and frontline goalkeeper Mat Ryan will play in the friendlies after injuries ruled them out against Kuwait.
