Next month, the event will be held for the 40th time and is set to be one of the biggest yet.
Mitchell Conservatorium executive director Graham Sattler said the focus of this year’s Carols is community.

There will not only be talented Bathurst musicians many are familiar with, but also a range of new performers plucked right from the community, who had auditioned to be part of the night’s entertainment.
“We will also be featuring a school choir this time around, which is the choir from the Cathedral Primary School,” Mr Sattler said.
“This is the first time we’ve had a school choir group audition.”
As usual, there will be community carols sung on the night, encouraging audience participation.
There will be two stages, in addition to the rotunda, and several big screens placed in Machattie Park to help everyone see the performers.
“The idea is to very much reach the far corners of the park,” Mr Sattler said.
Carols by Candlelight will be held on Sunday, December 9, with pre-show entertainment from 5.30pm ahead of the official start at 7pm.
“We encourage people to bring picnics and extended family,” Mr Sattler said.
