She may have only travelled up from Melbourne only two months ago, but The Lagoon’s driver-trainer Nathan Turnbull has already steered Lagom to success in only her second start.

The six-year-old won in only her second start for Turnbull in Parkes last weekend, with race favourite ($1.90) Lagom leading from the front to be in front by 6.6 lengths at the finish.
Lagom’s other start with Turnbull saw her record a last place after a troubled meeting, however driver-trainer Turnbull said that the journey from Victoria to Bathurst will be a change in pace for the horse.
“It will definitely be a gear up for her, a real change of gear compared with Melbourne,” said Turnbull.
Lagom travelled all around Victoria with her first two owners then moved up to Bathurst and into her new home in the Turnbull stables.
“I don’t actually know much about the horse. One of the staff who works with me found it and bought it from Melbourne and I have had the two starts with her,” said Turnbull.
The mare has a troubled history and whilst she has recorded five victories in 48 starts, her career is littered with braking up, contact with marking pegs and incorrect starting positions, something that Turnbull is hoping to change, and is so far happy with his new mare.
“She is really good at home but gets really fired up when we go to race meetings. Before the race, she gets really excited,” said Turnbull.
Lagom will once again be racing again this weekend in Young for race two of the evening and won’t be the only horse that Turnbull will steer for the evening.
Tough draws for Relapse, Multi Score and Lagom have put Turnbull on the back foot with Fantasy Level the only horse with a front row starting position.
“We are definitely up against it for that evening. Multi Score drew from the back, Fantasy Level will be racing down a grade so we are hoping for a good result there, but overall we will need some luck for the evening,” said Turnbull.
