The competition has enjoyed record numbers this season, with club representative Tony Lewis really happy with the amount of participation seen.
“We have had record numbers which has been fantastic, especially in the junior competition,” said Lewis.
“We have between 70 to 80 junior teams, and have seen a participation increase of about 15 percent this season compared with previous years.
“Starting with the under 10s, which is a non-competitive competition, they all go and battle for sheep stations which is fantastic, and all the other competitions are really competitive.
“There is usually 15 games going on every Monday night, and a total of around 150 teams that play overall so it is pretty good.”
The competition represents all age groups, both adult and juniors, competition levels and genders in what is a well executed fixture.
Lewis is proud of the people surrounding the competition that make it all possible.
“The competition is really well run. We have lots of officials and referees that give up their time to come and help out and we are really thankful,” said Lewis.
“With the amount of teams that compete, it is really difficult to make it all happen, and because of it we are definitely one of the bigger competitions in the region.”
Whilst there are many privateer teams, the breadth of teams from various organisations gives the competition a massive community feel.
Teams include the Bathurst Academy of Music, to Ray White, Clancy Motor Group and RDF Concreting, so almost all walks of life are represented.
The competition fixture is at the halfway point of the season with all teams now taking a break for the Christmas holidays, but after round eight held last Monday, the championship standings are tight in many of the 15 competitions on offer.
However, some teams are showing their dominance, especially seen with under 16 girls team B&D, who have scored 66 tries, and only conceding three.
In the women’s competition, AMS Honey Badgers and Panorama Panthers are tied together on 18 points undefeated and Straight Off The Couch are on top of the men’s over 30s competition.
Teams will reconvene on January 21 for the second half of the competition.
