Supt Mathias said the fire was burning close to property, was unable to confirm whether it was homes or businesses.
“There was property close by and property protection is at hand,” he said.
The fire is burning in bushland at the rear of the Lithgow Small Arms Factory.
Supt Mathias said there was currently very little breeze at the fireground site and crews were hopeful of getting it under control as quickly as possible.
More to come.
