SHE produced the best bowling performance of her Women’s Big Bash League career, but Lisa Griffith’s heroics with the ball were not enough to get Sydney Thunder the nod in Sunday’s match against Perth.

For the second day running at Lilac Hill, the Scorchers prevailed in a nail-biter against Griffith’s visiting Thunder outfit.
On Saturday the Scorchers pulled off a record run chase of 180 when they won with a ball to spare, while on Sunday in a lower-scoring affair, the Perth outfit prevailed by three runs.
Griffith, who had earlier taken 2-17 off three overs, watched on from the stands as her side fell agonisingly short at 5-124 in reply to Perth’s 7-127.

“It’s a bit bitter-sweet with the two losses, but all credit to the Scorchers to how well they played to clinch those two wins,” Griffith said.
“I think T20 is a funny game like that, low scores can produce really close games and so can high scores.”
Last season from her six matches, Griffith was unable to take a wicket and had an economy rate of 10.02. But this season the Bathurst bowler has an economy rate of 6.24 and boasts six scalps.
Two of those came on Sunday. Thrown the ball in the second over, she removed Amy Jones with her first delivery.
It got even better in her second over when she bowled Australian skipper Meg Lanning, the ball striking the top of off stump to send her on her way for one run.
“I was a bit shocked actually to get the new ball, but really eager,” Griffith said.
“I didn’t actually realise it had hit the stumps with Meg, so I was a bit shocked. But I’m really lucky and grateful I got that opportunity.”
Griffith had 2-7 after her first two overs and was given the job to bowl the 18th over as well. By varying her pace and line through her deliveries, she finished with nine dot balls.
While the narrow defeats on Saturday and Sunday have seen Thunder slip from first to second on the Women’s Big Bash League ladder, come Wednesday night Griffith and her team-mates have the chance to reclaim top spot.
To do so will mean beating a Sydney Sixers line-up boasting two of the competition’s form batters in Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy.

Still, Griffith’s form with the ball in what is her second season with Thunder should give her confidence and her team-mates are also determined to build on their solid start to 2018-19.
“I actually got smacked around the park last year, so this year I’ve just tried to really nail my plans and be clear on what ball I’m bowling,” she said.
“We’re very hungry coming into the next games, we’ve got some home games coming up. We’ll be very hungry against the Sixers to get a win and continue winning games.”
