The club have been hard at work in preparation for this Sunday’s Bathurst Swim Club Qualifying Carnival at the Bathurst Aquatic Centre, the first opportunity for many competitors to earn qualifying times for the NSW Country Championships.
Part of that preparation involved some inspiration from Australian representative swimmers during the club’s recent intensive squad week.
Bathurst Swim Club head coach Steve Howell said it was a great way for his squad to pump themselves up following the Christmas break.
“Our guys had a great break and they enjoyed an intensive week where they got to speak to Olympians David Morgan and Ariarne Titmus via video chat and that really helped to lift their spirits for the coming week,” he said.
“They put a lot of work into that week and bonded really well. I think it helped them change their mindset about how to approach these sorts of things.
“From the guys I had in that intensive group I’m expecting big things. Everyone else is back in training this week and it can be a tough thing to do after a few weeks off.
“I can promise that they will all lift and do their best to make Bathurst proud.”
Howell said it’s of little surprise to see the Bathurst event so well supported by Mountains and Plains affiliated clubs.
“It’s a big event that’s been booked out solid, and has been for the past couple of weeks I believe,” he said.
“This is Bathurst’s biggest carnival. Nearly every kid in our program will be racing in something and most of the group will be racing in around five or six events.
“We not only have clubs from around the area but from across the whole state attending this carnival.”
Country Championships start from February 22.
