This week in at the Majellan Bowling Club saw a lot of winners and losers who in the bowling world clearly had a lot of fun during the competitions.
As stated last week there were a few cards, misplaced so let’s start with them in this week’s report.
On Thursday, January 3 during a mixed competition the follow played out:
Rink two
Dawn Howarth (swing bowler), Liz Draper and Merle Stephens were no match and never got both eyes opened against Val Zylstra and Alan Clark who ran away with the victory from the fifth end to never be threatened to come away winners 21-7.
Rink three
Jill Cuzner and Liz Bull led from the start to overcome Jocelyn Ballard and Peter Zylstra in what can be described as a standard win.
With no real big wins in any of the ends the final score was 20-10.
Rink four
Betsy Thornberry, George Ballard and Jean Wild failed to fire the required points throughout the game to be defeated by Leonie McGarry, S. Murray and Tim Pickstone.
Team Pickstone winning comfortably 25-11. On Thursday, January 8 the following took place for the following 19 bowlers:
Rink one
Barry O’Keefe (swing bowler), B. Bembrier and Peter Naylor took it to Paul Kennedy and Tim Pickstone with a close fought match with the scores tied after 11 ends at ten all.
It was after this though Team Pickstone persistently rolled better than Team Naylor to come away with the win of 22-17.
Rink two
Rink winners for the day, Ron McGarry, K. Pender and G. Cameron had the closest match of the day against I. Warren, J. Bossom and Glen Urza.
With the points being awarded to either team it wasn’t until the 20th end that the scores were tied 20 all.
End 21 proved to be the winning end for Team Urza winning 21-20.
Rink three
J. Mannion and K. Connors opened the scoring in their match against Peter Zylstra and Terry Burke.
It was at the end of the 5th that the scores were tied at three all.
It was then that Team Burke pounced and took control for the remainder of the game, coming out winners 20-15.
Rink five
Terry Clark and Alan Clark teamed up with experience and tried and topple Kevin Howard and John Hobson.
However, this was not meant to be, with Team Hobson proving that after the scores being tied at nine all after eight ends and again after 11 ends at 11 all.
The final siren for this match was 24-19 to Team Hobson. On Saturday, January 12 the winners were grinners after the final call of cards as the following played out throughout the day:
Rink one
rink winners Tony McNamarra, K. Connors and Peter Naylor proved to be the ones to beat after the seventh end with scores tied at five all.
Team Naylor opened the scoring gates and ran away with the win 28-10.
Rink two
Ron McGarry, Andrew Moffat and John Hobson embarked on an crusade to try and bring Gus Thurgood, Butch Stevens and Mick McDonald under control.
This match proved to be very tight from the opening end, and after nine ends being tied five apiece.
It wasn’t until the 15th end that Team Hobson took the lead, but fell short in the end being beaten by one going down 16-15.
Rink three
John Bosson, Peter Zylstra and Noel Whitney failed to fire from the start as the scores dictated entered the shame file when they were down by 14-0 after four ends.
It was going to be a tough ask to come back from such a lead by Josh Robinson, George Ballard and Tony Hogan, who never struggled throughout the day comfortably winning 36-9.
Rink four
Jackpot Winners” Richard Graham (swing bowler), Paul Kennedy and Trevor Sharpham had to catch Ray Minogue and Tim Pickstone.
They did this after four ends being four all. From there Team Sharpham never looked back and ran away with the win 24-14.
Over the past couple of weeks two of the Majellan Bowlers have been on vacation on the northern beaches.
Hugh Brennan and Terry James both teamed up on Friday, January 11 at the Newport Bowling Club.
There were two teams from the Grey Nomads in training consisting of Kaylene Carr, Gary Café, Sandra Robinson, Leesa Lepaio, Garth Robinson, Christine Cullen-Doullis, Kevin Buckley, Greg Carr, Jo Café and Jodie James.
After twelve ends between Teams Jodie and Christine the scores was level at 35 all.
It was then decided that a roll off would take place and on the second roll Sandra Robinson picked up the jack to put it in the gutter for the win for Team Christine.
On Saturday they both attended the Mona Vale Bowling club and were taught a serious lesson by a team of No: two bowlers, going down 29-9.
There was not even a sign of valour for these two as they were outclassed from the onset. Better luck next time.
This concludes this week’s wrap-up for the Majellan Bowling Club, so until next week, be kind to each other.
Stay Frosty.
