St Pat’s finished the first day of its one-day match against Bathurst City at The Scots School with a score of 7-237.
Skipper Adam Ryan and Connor Slattery were the big hitters with scores of 56 and 63 respectively.
Ryan said he’ll be happy with any score over 260.
“At the end of the day, the more runs or more time batting puts the pressure on [Redbacks] to get the total in time,” he said.
“Anything above the 260 I’ll be happy with. We’ll see how we go. I think they’re due for a new ball and it always spices things up.”
Over 48 millimeters was recorded in Bathurst on Monday, but interestingly enough, you might not have noticed on the Tuesday according to Ryan.
“They had about 40 millimetres out on Scots on Monday and we trained on it on Tuesday,” he said.
“Unless you knew about the rain the day before, the whole field had sucked it in and you wouldn’t have known it rained.
“Even the deck was hard as a rock. That recent hot weather had room for the rain to be sucked right into the ground.”
When Redbacks do get the chance with the bat, Ryan wants to restrict their key players.
“Obviously Joey [Coughlan] and Ben [Orme]. They are their senior players and they’ve been there for a long time,” he said.
“They’re good at scoring runs, so those are players we want to get early.
“The lakes of Mark Day and Aditya Adey, they’re pretty talented too.
“At the end of the day, they are a team that bat fairly low. It’ll be about taking constant wickets and not allowing too many partnerships to take over.
Play between St Pat’s Old Boys and Bathurst City gets underway at 1.30pm at The Scots School.
