Mymatepog and Ichiba Newy both won their heats of the McCarron Cullinane series on February 3 at Orange, booking their spot in Sunday’s decider.
It took Rue to 100 winners since switching her training base to the Showground.
That pair then backed up those runs on the grass track to go one-two in the 1,609 metres final at the Carnival of Cups meeting.
It was Mymatepog ($2.50 favourite), with Mat Rue in the gig, who claimed the honours. It was his fourth consecutive victory this season.
Mat Rue settled the favourite three back in the running line from his barrier 11 draw, then peeled three-wide through the bend. He ran down his stable-mate in the final 50m.
Amanda Turnbull steered Ichiba Newy ($7.50) to second place, 1.3m off the pace set by her stablemate.
