Kate Lynch has been running since she was a child, her success including gold at two national title events.
Her involvement in athletics continued after the birth of her children, and the whole Lynch family will be keeping a close eye on the event as it nears.
Ms Lynch said it was an incredible opportunity, not only for local athletes, but for Bathurst as a sporting city.
"It's just awesome. This is the first time the world championships have been held in Australia, let alone Bathurst," she said, adding that it is generally in Europe.
"It's just amazing, great for the area. I would encourage all young kids to come and have a look when it comes to Bathurst.
"To have this calibre of athletes in our town is amazing, and they'll be bringing their supporters, all the workers and administration. They will be all coming to stay here and have a look at our area."
The World Cross Country Championships will be held at Mount Panorama in March, 2021.
More than 700 competitors will come from 60 countries to participate in the event.
