Wednesday Jackpot Bowls saw 26 bowlers take to the greens chasing the jackpot contesting five games of pairs and one game of triples with the following results:
Game 1 Hamish Mackay, Jeff Larsen and Jim Grives 25 defeated Phillip Murray, Noel Kable and Gordon Death 17. Team Death led early 7-1 after five ends. Team Grives levelled the scores at 7-7 after seven ends, then led 14-12 after 14 ends. Team Death regained the lead 16-14 after 16 ends. Team Grives finished the stronger winning four of the next 5 ends to win 25-17. Ends to Team Grives 11-10.
Game 2 Kevin Miller and Bryan Bromfield 21 defeated Barry McPherson and Alan Clarke 15. Miller and Bromfield led 6-3 after seven ends and 12-9 after 14 ends. McPherson and Clarke drew level 12-12 after 17 ends Kevin & Bryan won threee of the final four ends to win 21-15. Ends to the winners 11-10.
Game 3 Mick Burke and G. Holland 20 defeated John McDonagh and Trevor Kellock 19. The Burke Team had a narrow 7-6 lead after seven ends John and Trevor won six of the next seven ends to Lead 14-8 after 14 ends and led 19-14 after 18 ends Byrne duo won the last three ends to score a thrilling one shot victory. Team Kellock won the ends 11-10.
Game 4 Ian Cunningham and Bobby Lindsay 35 had a convincing victory over John Martin and J Davies 11. Martin and Davis Led 9-4 after seven ends and 10-6 after ten ends but Cunningham and Lindsay went on a scoring spree winning ten of the next 11 ends to claim the win. They picked up an eight and six to cruise to victory. Ends to the winners 15-6
Game 5 Pat Duff and Ross James 26 defeated John Fulton and Ray Noonan 17 Duff and James led 11-4 after seven ends. Fulton and Noonan levelled 11-11 after ten ends. Duff and James led 14-12 after 14 ends. Seven shots on the 15th end consolidated the game for Duff and James and they cruised to victory. Ends to the winners 11 -10.
Games 6 Kenny Fulton and Gary Hotham 28 defeated Bob Heffernan and Denis Oxley eight. Fulton and Hotham Led 9-6 after seven ends and 20-7 after 14 ends. Heffernan and Oxley only managed to win four of the 20 ends played giving Fulton and Hotham a resounding victory.
Friday Jackpot Bowls saw one game of triples played. Bob Heffernan Elizabeth bull and Ross James 18 defeated John Martin, Kevin Miller and John Archer 12 Team James led 8-6 after five ends. Team Archer fought back to level at 12-12 after ten ends and led 15-12 after 12 ends. the James trio won the last three ends to win 18-15. Ends to the winners 8-7.
Great weather on Saturday saw 35 bowlers on the greens three social games and seven club singles championship games.
Social Games
One: Dennis Harvey and Geoff Waters 27 defeated Ron Camber and Mick Hall 11. Ron and Mick won the early ends and led 4-2 after four ends. Dennis and Geoff won the next three ends to lead 7-4 after ten ends before Dennis and Geoff won ten of the last 11 ends to score a convincing win Ends to the winners 15-6.
Two: Phillip Murray and Gary Hotham 26 defeated Brian Burke and Peter Drew from Majellan 15 Phillip and Gary led throughout. They were 11-1 after seven ends and 22-2 after 14 ends. Brian and Peter scored 13 shots to four over the final seven ends to add a bit of respectability to the score. Ends to the winners 14-7
Three: Arch Leader Bruce Rich and Bobby Bourke 20 defeated John McDonagh, Bob Foster, Ian Schofield 19. Team Bourke led 9-5 after seven ends and 15-11 after 14 ends. Team Schofield fought back and led 19-18 after 20 ends. The Bourke trio scored two shots on the last end to secure victory in great game of bowls. The Schofields trio won the ends 11-10
Singles game
One: John Finlay 31 defeated Peter Wibberley 14. Marker Ross James. John took up the real running and led 11-3 after nine ends 17-9 after 18 ends John scored two shots on the 27th end to seal victory.
Two: John Archer 31 defeated Norm Hayes 19. Marker Brian Bromfield. John got away to a great start leading 17-6 after ten ends. Norm rallied winning 10 of the next 15 ends but John sealed victory with four shots on 27 ends.
Three: Denis Oxley 31 defeated Hans Hummelshoj 21. Make Ray Fitzallan. Hans began best but Dennis settled and led 12-7 after 10 ends and 25-11 after 21 afters 21 ends Hans fought back and trailed 21-27 before Denis sealed the victory on the 31 st end.
Four: Phil Gray 31 defeated Mick Sewell 11 Mick Sewell. Marker Ray Noonan Mick scored two shots on the first end Before Phil Reeled off 16 shots over the next eight ends to lead16-2. Phil led 26-8 after 18 ends and Secured victory on the 24th end.
B Singles Games
One: Joe McCurry 31 defeated Bob Heffernan 22. Marker Jim Grives Scores were level at 9-9 after nine ends Joe led 21-14 after 18 ends and sealed victory with four shots on the 26th and 27th ends.
Two: Kevin Miller 31 defeated Paul Rodenhuis 22. Marker Barry McPherson Kevin got the best of the start. Paul fought back and levelled the scores at 7-7. Scores were level at 9-9 and 10-10. Paul took the lead momentarily 11-10 on the 15th end. Kevin rallied and sealed victory after a marathon 36th end.
Three: This game saw the appearance of our first player from the junior development squad – Brodie Carter, who went down to the experienced Trevor Kellock 31-17. Marker Gary Knight Welcome back. Gary Brodie started well leading 5-2 after five ends. Trevor fought back and led 10-7 after 11 ends. Brodie hung by focussing on producing good draw bowls and trailed 17-24 after 24 ends Trevor sealed victory scoring seven shots over four ends to win on the 28th end. Well done Trevor. Great fist up effort Brodie. Be proud of your achievements in your first championship game.
Sunday saw the first rounds of pennants with the six and seven grades both having a bye. Grade 2 played the strong West Dubbo team and lost two rinks to one and overall 60-54.
Phil Gray’s team of Ray Fitzallan. John archer. Peter Wibberley and Phil won 25-17. Ross James’ team of Bob Lindsay Brian Bromfield, Mick Hall and Ross went down 18-25. John Finlay’s team of Ian Schofield, Garry Hotham, Richard Simpson and John went down 11-23.

This week saw the start of the 2019 Pennants with the two teams of 4’s and 6’s in action at the Majellan Club. The social bowls and Club Championships are still in full swing as well and these are the results from this week:
Sunday, February 24
Rink 5: Minor Men’s Pairs Championship Game Trevor Sharpham and Ken Hartwig never lost momentum against Ron McGarry and Terry Burke. After the 11th end Team Hartwig lead by seven (14-7) and cruised to a close win 22-17.
Tuesday 26 February Social Games
Rink 3: Ray Minogue and Peter Naylor had an impressive start against Terry Clarke and Trevor Palister. Team Naylor were up by 12 points by the 13th end and were never threatened for the lead to finish their game 27-13.
Rink 4: Gus Thurgood, Ron McGarry and Tony Hogan were another team that never looked like being defeated by Eric Robb, George Ballard and Tony McNamara. Team Hogan were up by 14 points after 13 ends to finish up winners 29-16.
Rink 5: Bob Bembrick, Jim Clarke and Alan Clarke lead from the start to the finish against Dick Graham, Mick Tremain and Ken Hartwig. Team Clark were clinical in their win, leading by 11 by the 13th end. Team Hartwig fought back to bring the final margin back to three losing the match 20-17.
Rink 6: Barry O’Keefe (Swing Bowler), Barry Quigley and Kevin Howard took on Barry O’Keefe, Paul Kennedy and Frank Farrell. This match saw the lead change a couple of times at the back end of the match with the scores very close, the match was up for grabs, but alas there can only be one winner with Team Farrell taking the honours 27-23.
Saturday, March 2 Social Games
Rink 1: Gus Thurgood and Butch Stevens were against Max Elms and Noel Whitney. Team Whitney were on the catch up for the first six ends and soon gained the momentum to hold Team Stevens on six points for seven ends. Team Whitney coming away with the win 23-13.
Rink 2: Hugh Brennan and John Hobson were on point for their match against Trevor Sharpham and Peter Naylor. Team Hobson showed some clinical placements throughout their match to secure the victory over Team Naylor 25-14.
Rink 3: Men’s Major Singles Championship Game. Glen Urza and Craig Bush battled it out over 40 ends in what was to be a very close game in the end. Glen Urza was up by eight after 20 ends 18-10. By the 38th end Craig Bush took the lead 29-28 and then 30-28 on the 39th end. But it was Glen Urza with a 3 point win on the last end to take the match 31- 30.
Rink 4: Men’s Major Singles Championship Game. Alan Clark and Tiger Smith faced off for 31 ends and with an early lead by Alan Clark, Tiger Smith stepped it up and held the lead from the fifth end until the finish. Tiger Smith winning 32-21.
Rink 5: Social Bowls Ted Parker, John Bossom and Tony Press took it to Dick Graham, Paul Kennedy and Kevin Howard with the first 11 ends being close, as the scoring dictated. Team Howard took charge from the 12th end and lead for the rest of the match winning 31-19.
Rink 6: Social Game George Ballard, Ray Minogue and Dave Josh opened their match against Tony Hogan, Ron McGarry and Alan North with an early lead after seven ends. It was Team North that took charge of the match after 13 ends and cruised to victory with a 30-16 win.
Sunday, March 3 No 6 Pennants. The Majellan took on Oberon Bowling Club in the first round of Pennants the following results were recorded for the day.
Rink 1: Oberon opened the scoring with gusto with a lead of 6 (14-8) after 11 ends. D. Sajowitz, D.Stephens, J. Whittaker and D.Evans were clinical and looked to take their match until Peter Drew, Kevin Howard, Ken Hartwig and Alan Clark levelled the score on the very next end. Majellan taking the win 27-19.
Rink 2: Again Oberon opened the scoring but on this occasion B. Bright, K.Kitt, J.McQueen and H. Braun had a fight on their hands against Hugh Brennan, Terry Burke, Noel Whitney and Tim Pickstone who controlled the match from the 5 th end winning the next 13 ends and keeping Oberon to single figures, finishing 37-8.
Rink 3: Oberon with P. Hogan, S. Gear, G. Braun and J.Taggart dominated their match against Trevor Sharpham, Kerry Connors, Garry Cameron and Geoff Densmore with a lead of ten by the 11th end. Majellan then fought back to come within 6 of the win with Oberon taking the prize 26-20.
No 4 Pennants. The Majellan took on Lithgow Workers Club and the following results were recorded for the day.
Rink 4: Lithgow’s G.Green, T.Mills, S. Lesslie and R. Warren had a full on battle against Anthony McNamara, John Hobson, Mick McDonald and Peter Naylor with the scores tied after the tenth and again on the 20th at 18 all the final end proved victorious for Majellan taking the win 20-18.
Rink 5: Lithgow with D.Hogan, C. Phelan, A. Ciosmak and B.Judge proved they had what it takes against Butch Stevens, Tony Urza, Tiger Smith and Craig Townsend, with a close fought match throughout it was Lithgow who proved too good for Majellan taking the win 22-18.
Rink 6: It was Lithgow again with D. Bunting, J. Eather, L. Slattery and C. McDonnell who proved too good for Majellan’s Dave Josh, Reece Harvey, Glen Urza and Craig Bush. Lithgow dominated from the get go and were never threatened by the Majellan team. Lithgow coming up easy winners 29-16.
This concludes yet another busy week and with the Pennants now on the standards have risen for all bowlers. So be nice to each other and Stay Frosty.
