A TEENAGER who repeatedly punched a Bathurst High student in the head after the victim had allegedly "chatted up" the teen's boyfriend has escaped conviction, but has been placed on a bond for 12 months.

The charge against the 16-year-old was heard in Bathurst Children's Court this week before magistrate Follent.
The 16-year-old, who was not a student at the school, was charged by police with assault occasioning actual bodily harm following the incident at the school last month.
Police facts tendered to the court told how the victim was sitting outside the deputy principal's office when the 16-year-old walked past the victim.
The victim looked at the 16-year-old as she walked past, but at this stage no words were exchanged, according to the police facts.
A short time later, the 16-year-old approached the victim, said "you wanna chat up my man, you slut" and punched the victim in the face a number of times.
An ambulance was called and the school was put into lockdown.
Police immediately attended the area and found the offender on the corner of nearby Hope and Lambert streets.
Her details and brief details on the incident were obtained by officers.
Police said the offender said "yeah, I punched her", but as she had not been cautioned and was not with a support person, she was allowed to leave.
Police attended Bathurst Base Hospital and spoke with the victim. Police asked her if she knew the person who had assaulted her and she said she didn't.
Police were told another person had witnessed the incident at the school.
That person provided a handwritten statement saying the 16-year-old came up to the victim, accused her of being a "whore" or "slut", grabbed her hair and punched her in the face.
A video was also given to police which clearly showed the victim being assaulted by the offender.
The 16-year-old was later arrested and taken to Bathurst Police Station.
