Brooklyn Kingi, 18, of Roxburgh Drive, Kelso, appeared before Magistrate Clisdell in person and unrepresented, charged with malicious damage and custody of a knife in a public place.
According to the police facts, the victim in the matter received a call from Kingi on March 3 this year saying he was coming over to see the victim.
At about 2.05pm, the victim heard Kingi yelling for him to come outside. The victim didn't open the door, but could see Kingi pacing out the front of the premises.
The court heard the victim could see Kingi holding what appeared to be a knife in the front pocket of his jacket.
Kingi said he would be back in five minutes "with a heap of people", according to the police facts.
The victim called police.
Police arrived and spoke to Kingi, who was standing with a group of young people. They asked Kingi if he was in possession of a knife and he said it was in his jacket pocket.
Police searched the pocket and found an approximately 20cm-long knife with a black handle concealed in the pocket area of the jacket. Kingi told police it was his knife.
Officers asked Kingi if it was the knife he had at the victim's house and Kingi told them it was.
In an electronic interview, Kingi told police: "I rocked up to his house today. I was knocking on the door; I knew he was there. I was going off my head. I was losing it. As I walked away, I slashed his tyre."
Kingi was arrested and taken to Bathurst Police Station, where he provided a signed statement in relation to damaging the tyre.
Police examined the slash mark, which was consistent with the knife confiscated from the accused.
On the charge of destroying or damaging property, Kingi was convicted and fined $500, with 28 days to pay. For having a knife in a public place, he was convicted and fined $500, with the weapon to be forfeited.
