The exhibition is a celebration of creativity, student achievement and the role the visual arts play in responding to current topics. It features ceramics, drawing, painting, photomedia, printmaking, sculpture, and time-based work.
The Garden of Shadows is a collection of work developed during Fabrice Cazenave's six-week residency at Murrays Cottage as the inaugural French Artist in Residence (FAR) in Hill End in 2018.
Based on the allegory of Plato's Cave, Cazenave made large charcoal drawings on canvas of the shadows of the cottage.
e also created drawings with closed eyes, using the "conscious perception of touch". The resulting works question our relationship to reality and truth, and portray a kind of sensitive world, an underworld where meanings are reversed and hidden.
The three exhibitions will be officially opened at 6pm on Friday, April 12 by National Art School director and CEO Steven Alderton.
At 5pm, before the opening, there will be a panel discussion on European contemporary art with Steven Alderton, artist Fabrice Cazenave, writer Olivia Rosenthal, French cultural attaché Philippe Platel from the French Consulate in Sydney and BRAG director Sarah Gurich.
The three exhibitions continue until June 2.
