While Will Hodges took out the first two rounds of the club's annual road series, Rayner replaced on top of the leaderboard after he defeated Luke Tuckwell and Mark Windsor in the hilliest round of the series over the Caloola Ridge.
Rayner, who also won the premier grade crown in 2018, leads the way after four rounds over Windsor while Hodges slipped to third having missed the most recent round.
It was a dramatic day for Windsor, who fell and then had to avoid an aggressive brown snake during the 52 kilometre race.
B grade was an exciting race with three riders - Ben Taylor, Drew Tuckwell and Scott James - breaking clear of the bunch on the Caloola Climb.
On the return trip Ben Taylor attacked and went on to an impressive win from Tuckwell and James, with veterans Rob Stephen, Graham Stait and Glen Partridge not too far away.

David Reece and Glen Partridge are the current overall co-leaders of the B grade series.
David McKellar had an easy win in C grade to extend his series lead, but in D grade things were much more action-packed.
One of the race favourites Jette McKellar suffered a puncture early in the race and had to make a quick wheel change.
By the top of Caloola Gary Baker had built a lead, but Caroline Robertson and McKellar worked hard to bridge the gap and join him.
McKellar that attacked on the return trip, but Baker countered and in a great battle held a small but winning gap to the finish.
Phil Cole still retains his D grade series lead over the in-form McKellar and Baker.
