Having been stripped of points after round two for fielding an ineligible player, Souths embarked on their first road trip of the season hungry for a win.
While a calf injury ruled Dani Fisher out of the contest, the return of Daisy Morrissey at left half added starch to Souths' defence.
Morrissey, alongside striker Stanford, were the standouts for the two blues as they not only held Zig Zag scoreless for the fourth consecutive round, but moved back up the ladder.
Souths struck in each of the opening two quarters to be up 2-0 at half-time and from there went on with the job.

"It was a pretty scrappy game, it definitely wasn't our best performance of the year. That's what you get down in Lithgow, it really wasn't free flowing," Souths coach Chris Stafford said.
"We weren't as patient as we should have been and we went away from our structure a bit ... but it was still good to win.
"As predicted they had a lot of numbers behind the ball and they really pressed up on us coming out of defence. That was a good challenge for the girls to adjust to, it was something new.
"It is a good win to have, especially because CYMS had a good 4-1 win today over Feds. We've got CYMS, Pat's and the Feds next and that's going to be a difficult run, so it was nice to get points on the board."
