Mish Somers and Karah Armstrong to play 100th league tag game for St Pat's

Now they are set to mark an impressive milestone together.

Armstrong was there when it began, guiding the Saints to the inaugural title with a 14-10 win over Bathurst Panthers on grand final day. That was the first of her three premierships.

Parkes native Somers joined the ranks of the blue and whites in 2013 and she too has enjoyed three premiership campaigns. Last year she not only skippered the Saints to an undefeated crown, but she was named best on ground in the decider.

While Armstrong retired after Pat's beat Hawks 16-17 in the 2017 grand final, this season she has been lured back.

It means that come this Sunday when the Saints host Mudgee, Armstrong and Somers will run out together to mark their milestone 100^th game.

"It was nice of her to retire early then come back so we could team up for the 100 together. We had to carry her off the field in that grand final win [in 2017], but she's come back and really she hasn't lost it, she's still killing it," Somers said of Armstrong.

"One hundred games, yeah that does make me feel old, especially when you've got people like Erin Naden, 17, running around with you, it definitely makes you feel old. I'm Mum, she's Grandma."

While Armstrong, aka Loges, previously played rugby union for Grenfell and CSU, Somers' background before embracing league tag was slightly different.

She got her strong kicking skills from soccer and play making talent from having been involved with touch football since she was seven.

As for their league tag highlights reel - which also includes representative appearances - Somers nominates three.

"Probably last year, the back-to-back premierships and being undefeated, that was a big one. The other highlight would be my first grand final win against Panthers, that's always a big one, local derby," she said.

"Oh and playing with Loges in the halves would be my other highlight too," she added.

This season the Saints are favoured to win their fifth overall crown as after six rounds they are undefeated. They are also averaging over 40 points per game.

Somers knows her side has the talent to succeed, but knows her rivals can not be underestimated. That includes the Mudgee side they meet on Sunday.

"From when it first started it definitely has improved, about two years ago it really had a massive step up, a few more teams had those key players who stepped up as well," Somers said.

"This year I think we've just got that bit of a core group who have played together for two or three years now, so that really helps. We are just used to playing with each other, you don't have to think too much out there.

"Mudgee, they're a bit hit and miss, you never know who's going to turn up. But Harriet Messner leads from the front for those girls, she used to play for us, so that will be a good one.

"I think they are just in top five at the moment, so it should be a tough one."
