On Saturday as the Panthers notched up a 2-0 win over St Pat's in Lithgow - the first time the pair had met since the 2018 grand final - it was that hunger which proved the difference.
While the Saints matched their hosts in term of penalty corner opportunities with four apiece and enjoyed plenty of circle penetrations, they were unable to convert.
As the Saints endured the frustration of having shots flash across the face or pushed just wide, Panthers found the mark twice from deflections.
One came from field play in the opening quarter, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper, the other from a penalty corner in the second period.

"They just took their opportunities inside the circle and I think we were probably just not hungry enough. We had plenty of shots and we created opportunities, we just couldn't put them away," Saints defender Mish Somers said.
"It was really even across the park, I'd say most of the game though was played in the middle, there really wasn't a lot of end-to-end stuff.
"In that last quarter we certainly had our chances, I think we had 90 percent of the ball in that quarter, we just couldn't get it in. They were just better than us on the day."
Somers nominated defender Lucy Weal, Parkes midfield recruit Paige Hay and Sarah Watterson as the best for the beaten Saints.
