While the static collection points have closed, there are still opportunities for people to support the fundraiser, with a barbecue to be held at Bunnings Warehouse next weekend.
Lieutenant Kate Cathcart said the Salvation Army was "very grateful" for all the donations.
"We raised funds that are very helpful to us," she said.
The lower than usual fundraising figure is thought to have been due to financial pressure that many households are under.
Lt Cathcart said the Salvation Army is already starting to look at ways to improve the appeal next year.
Funds raised from the Red Shield Appeal are used to help local communities, while a portion of the money goes into delivering other Salvation Army services, including:
- Family welfare assistance
- Refuge for women and children in crisis
- Homeless shelters
- Youth drop-in centres and support programs
- Emergency and disaster relief
- Drug and alcohol rehabilitation
- Disability programs
- Employment services and training programs
- Rural and outback chaplains
- Court and prison chaplains
- Chaplains to emergency service personnel
