But that's no deterrent for Orange-based police officer Phil Mounce-Stephens who is aiming to do 24 laps of the Mount in a 24-hour period from 9am on Saturday to raise money - and awareness - for Police Legacy.
A keen runner, Phil has never attempted anything like this before but said it was a way to give back to an organisation which does so much for police legatees and members of the wider police family.
Phil will start his walk after he finishes his usual Saturday morning parkrun.
His partner, Pippa Press, will base herself at the Mount as a support person, while members of the running club will walk parts of the way with him.
He said the community had been very supportive of the idea; from members of the running club, walking parts alongside him, to local businesses; Dominos will deliver pizzas to him during the day and Rydges who are also helping out, and are providing Phil with breakfast after he finishes.
During the 24-hours, Phil hopes to do 24 laps, which will equate to a 4000m incline, and approximately 140km all up.
He knows wind and weather will also make it difficult, but likens the challenges he will face to those faced by the larger police family.
ALSO MAKING NEWS:
He said Mount Panorama was the perfect location for him to walk.
"I see this challenge, with so much constant uphill battle, as a metaphor for the challenges faced by those left behind by deceased NSW police officers.
"I also strongly believe the benefits of physical activity have a huge positive impact on one's mental state.
"With this in mind, I have decided to use my personal challenge as an effort to raise funds for the NSW Police Legacy, who support both ideals."
Funds raised from the walk will go to NSW Police Legacy so they can continue to conduct their invaluable service of supporting police legatees.
Donations to Police Legacy, and the work it does for legatees, can be made at lapsforlegacy.gofundraise.com.au.
