The piece, titled OMG Mum - Humans are ugly, was drawn by Barbara Karrer and took out not only first prize in the All creatures great and small category, but was named Best in Show.
"I think it was the detail in it and just the appeal of it," publicity officer Carol Dobson said.
There were around 350 entries in this year's show across a broad range of categories. Four judges, Jan Sheppard, Karen James, Jenni Ford and Kim Bagot-Hiller, were responsible for awarding prizes.
Ms Dobson said that the quality of works across the entire competition was impressive.
"The quality is definitely up this year on what we've had in previous years," she said.
"The quantity [of entries] wasn't as high, but the quality was definitely up."
As a condition of entry, all pieces need to be available for sale.
As of Sunday morning, just over 20 artworks had been sold, which would come as wonderful news to the artists.
"It is a really good feeling that someone appreciates what they've done and all the time and effort that has gone into it," Ms Dobson said.
