The number of people on the move as refugees is the highest ever recorded, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
There are many different reasons for people to migrate and some have chosen to come to Bathurst.
At the Neighbourhood Centre we offer support to all migrants facilitating them to connect with services such as English tuition, Legal Advice, Form Help, Tax Help, Learner Driver program.
If you know someone - a neighbour, friend, work colleague or classmate - who you think may benefit from our services please don't hesitate to steer them in our direction!
Learning English is a significant piece in the puzzle of building a new life and establishing a sense of belonging in a new environment.
The Neighbourhood Centre has a wonderful Volunteer English Tutoring program which has successfully connected local community members with migrants.
Some people want to improve their conversational English, getting an understanding for good old Aussie slang! Others may need a little more structure around their learning.
A great way to connect is by coming to the Multicultural Women's Group, held on the second Friday of every month at The Neighbourhood Centre from noon-2pm. Our services are free and confidential.
