The seven year old mare has hit a streak of form lately, securing two wins in Dubbo and Bathurst and two second places in Bathurst and Penrith in her last four outings, and securing a further win earlier in the year in Dubbo.
That streak has her as the favourite to win the HRNSW Rewards Series Final in Dubbo this Sunday and Hurst definitely agrees the strong performer is his best chance for success on the weekend.
"Yeah, for sure she's been good to us lately, she's won her last two and she's going on really well, and got a good barrier this time, so I'm expecting really good things from her."
The mare's been a work in progress for Hurst in recent years, having been way-laid by serious injuries and other odd problems and issues in the lead-up to races, but that all looks to be in the past now.
"She's been really good, she's learnt to race a little bit this time in and she's not feeling those little niggles and problems quite as much and she's probably gone around a bit more and got a bit more used to it all."
"She's feeling really well, she had a virus quite bad at one point and that was her last big setback, but she's got over the injuries and she's been hitting really, really good form lately."
The 2120m distance she's been preparing to run at Dubbo fits right in with her recent success too having secured wins on the same trick earlier in the year.
"She probably does prefer the bigger track at Bathurst if she has the option, being such a big mare, but she's won two there in Dubbo this year, so she handles that track pretty well too."
The Bathurst trainer fully expects the recent streak to continue, and doesn't have any immediate plans to rest Major Hall, hoping instead to make up for lost time.
"We'll probably keep her going for a bit, she might even be going up in grade because she won those races pretty quick, but I think she'll do well wherever we put her," Hurst said.
"She's got a good record, they've all been good runs, the horse she beat at Bathurst the other week went on to win big there recently, so that's definitely a good sign."
