Boyd Neal, Benjamin Cullen, Benjamin Whyte and Liam Hanley graduated from the New South Wales Police Academy at Goulburn last week, after almost seven months of intense training.

These four new probationary constables will now commence 12 months of intense, on-the-job training.

"We've got some really good, experienced trainers that they've been assigned to and they'll be learning on the job, interacting with the community and keeping up the fantastic job the police do in this district," Superintendent Paul McDonald said.

"They'll go through various sections - detectives, the proactive crime team, Highway Patrol - learning different aspects of policing in the first 12 months of their career."

Supt McDonald said its "fantastic" to have an extra four officers working in Bathurst.

"It allows us to get those cars out on the roads at critical times when we need to," he said.

"It helps in the workload for the other officers hear.

"Having an influx of four new officers might seem little, but the impact they have on our roster is significant."

While training, the four constables undertook training in policy procedures, legislation and the law, as well as physical training in firearms, weapons and scenarios.

One of the new probationary constables - Boyd Neal - moves from his home at Penrith to Bathurst.

"It's not too far a drive back home to family," he said.

"I've already noticed the massive change from Penrith to Bathurst since moving here on the weekend. It's a nice place and I'm keen to meet people and involve myself in the community.

"I'd like to see the community to see the police as friends, that they can come talk to."

There is a staff of almost 150 police officers in the Chifley district, with up to 200 if highway patrol and other officers are included.
