After all, they have a proud history to uphold.
"Many of the students have placed in their age groups over the last seven years, with six students, both current and past, taking out first place for their age division on several occasions," principal Trish Forsyth said.
"O'Connell Public School has taken out the small schools section for the largest percentage of students participating in the Edgell Jog for the last four years and is hopeful to do it again this year.
"Students and family members have been lucky enough to win a number of major prizes from the lucky number draw at the conclusion of the event too."

Ms Forsyth said students in kindergarten to year six run up scenic Blacks Mill Lane, which comes off O'Connell Road, three times a week in terms two and three in preparation for the Edgell Jog each year.
The jog, which will be held on September 22, will have some changes this year.
Transponders will be attached to participants' bib numbers to speed up the finish, the event will be live-streamed by students from St Stanislaus' College and organisers say there will be more traffic control than before for increased safety.
Ms Forsyth said O'Connell Public, which is halfway between Bathurst and Oberon, has a history of students excelling in a range of sports, including cross-country, running, swimming, athletics and soccer.
"This year we had several students make it to Western Region trials for a variety of sports, with one student making it to state for running," she said.
"A number of our ex-students have continued running in high school and have made it to state level events over the past five years."
The school's next biannual art exhibition, in which every student displays a piece of art for possible purchase, will be held on Saturday, September 21 as the school celebrates its 150th anniversary.
