The business, which has been a regular haunt for people to call into, grab a paper, and catch up on the news will cease trading on November 2.

While they, along with their girls, Lauren and Michaela, and other staff have loved every second running the business, Lachlan said it was "time to move on."

The couple opened the newsagency when Lauren was just a toddler. Michaela was born not long after.

Rosaleen remembers working in the shop, while Michaela slept soundly in her baby capsule behind the counter.

For Lachlan it was the perfect job.

"I basically get to talk to people all day."

He said he and his staff have loved living up to their motto "our family serving your family" and said he had also gone to bat on many issues in the local community.

Likewise when the business needed the community, people stepped up. For years Lachlan campaigned for the business to become an agency for NSW Lotteries. He fondly recalls the fight, which was backed by the West Bathurst community.

"We were holding community meetings in the middle of the week and 100 people would turn up, and we had a petition going with thousands of signatures."

He said the best part of his job was the connection he had with the customers.

"We'd always have a laugh and joke, we know people's names, we've shared their lives.

"We've had amazing support in the last 20 years."

In addition to his customers, he thanked long serving staff member, Noel Lamb, who he said was one of the hardest workers he knew.

"He has arrived at 3.30am every morning, seven days a week, in all weather conditions for 11 years.

"If anyone needs a reliable, diligent staff member, Noel is their man," he said.

Lachlan said he and Rosaleen will remain in Bathurst. "You'll see us around the traps," he said.
