The paceman's efforts, which also included a catch, have left Bankstown in dire straits at 7-77 with the second day's play coming up this Saturday.
Copeland began his big day on the Bankstown Oval turf by clean bowling home skipper Daniel Solway for 2 runs.
He had Peter Dignam caught for 6 before bowling Jake Dawcett out for a golden duck.
Copeland picked up the fourth wicket of the innings when he had Nick Carruthers caught for 9, then after Tom Ortiz removed Nathan McAndrew for a duck the Bankstown men were on the verge of embarrassment at 5-19.
Ben Ridley (34) and Chris Ridley (18) provided a badly needed partnership for Bankstown.
Nick Stapleton's delivery and Copeland's safe hands saw Ridley head back to the pavilion just moments after bringing up the 50 partnership.
Copeland then completed his five-fer as he and Stapleton exchanged bowler-catcher roles to dismiss Taylor.
There's little chance of Copeland attending the second day's play as the Sheffield Shield makes its return on Thursday.
Copeland will undoubtedly line up for the Blues in their match against Queensland on account of the NSW squad resting Ashes stars Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins.
However, Mitchell Starc is expected to be playing while fellow Australian representatives Steve Smith and David Warner will add to the Blues' formidable batting stocks.
Meanwhile, Bathurst duo Nic Broes and Blake Dean teamed up for an 88-run stand to help Western District win their ACT Premier Cricket first grade opener against Tuggeranong Valley.
Broes hit 67 not out in the successful chase to get his Canberra campaign off to a stunning start while Dean's quick fire 53, off the same number of deliveries, also paved the way for a six wicket win.
Bathurst's Max Hope did his best to rescue Sydney University's second grade side with his 28 runs, which was sadly to top score for his team in a dismal innings of 129.
Uni will be staring down the barrel of first innings defeat when opponents Randwick resume 0-79.
Tanvir Singh made a steady start to his season with Western Suburbs in fourth grade, scoring 21 and managing to snare a vital wicket late in the day against Blacktown.
Copeland's fellow Bathurst graduates at St George, Nick Shurmer and Ryan Peacock, have also been in action.
Shurmer's 22 for the second grade side may not sound like much on paper but it provided some valuable stability with the Saints stuck on 3-21.
The team will attempt to avoid an outright defeat this Saturday.
Peacock earned a promotion to third grade following his 80 runs in the opening round. He is still waiting for a chance to bat against Bankstown who are 9-264.
