Saying goodbye
THE recent death of former Perthville orchardist Alan Hollis took away a member of one of our district's pioneering families.
Alan and his wife Margaret raised their family at Sunnyside orchard and he is remembered as the man who sold quality fruit at the Bathurst Saleyards every Wednesday.
He was regularly involved with his church and community, was always a gentleman, a good friend and a trusted neighbour.
Oh captain
A CHEER for Hannah Knight who is captaining the Western Division under 15 girls' cricket team this season.
Hannah has some quiet ancestors who were pretty handy with the bat and we wish her good luck and much success.
She is a grand-daughter of Del and Paul Glazebrook at Rockley Mount.
From the sales
AS the spring ram sale circuit nears its end, there are a few highlights that are of real interest:
- A $10,000 Banavie ram sold to Chris Stapleton, Capree Stud, Newbridge.
- A $10,000 Roseville Park ram sold to the Kelly Family of Newbridge.
- A $5000 Coddington Poll ram sold to Brendan Ostini, Ravecchia Stud, Millthorpe.
- Eight Bella Lana rams sold to Bestwick Pastoral, O'Connell.
- Tattykeel Black Springs averaged $1360 for flock Poll Dorsets, topped their stud Poll Dorset sale with a $23,000 ram, and averaged $3602 for 156 lots at their Australian White Stud Sale.
Relief at hand
ALONG with a lot of manual workers, I've had problems with leg, arm and hand cramps for decades.
A friend recommended Voltaren cream several years ago and results have been great for me.
There have been many instances of both hands virtually locking on the drive home after long hours on the hand shears, but Voltaren that is well-rubbed-in gives very quick results.
It may be worth a try for you.
Rayners' day
THE Rayner family, Pomanara Merino Stud, Sallys Flat, will host an open day on-property this Friday, October 11 from 10am.
Guest speakers will be Landmark nutritionist Courtney Lloyd and NSW wool manager David Hart.
Sale rams will be on display.
Gallagher reps will discuss exclusion fencing in conjunction with Agriwest Bathurst.
All are welcome and lunch will be available.

Laugh lines
THE eight-year-old boy ran to the police station.
"Come quick," he said, "me dad's in a blue at the pub."
The law hurried with him and, in the bar, he called: "Now, son, which one is your father?"
"Well," the youngster replied, "that's what they're fightin' about."
***
SHE was only eight and asked: "Daddy, what is sex?"
So Dad tried hard to explain about birds, bees, body parts, romance, etc and then asked why the little miss had asked.
"Because mummy said to tell you that dinner will be ready in a few secs," she said.
