The album, featuring hits such as the title track, Cry Like a Baby and These Pines, served as a launchpad for Chambers' solo career after spending much of the 1990s performing in the Dead Ringer Band.
Dead Ringer Band consisted of Chambers, her father Bill, mother Diane, brother Nash and Beccy Cole.
While she has, to date, released 12 studio albums as a solo artist, Chambers said her approach towards songwriting has remained constant over time.

"Although the songs on The Captain are 20 years old, the themes in the lyrics still feel fresh to me, and it's continued to be a staple in my live sets," she said.
"I try to sit down and let songs fall out without overthinking them, and it's a struggle to connect to the albums where I've thought too hard about the songwriting process."
Chambers' father and brother have continued to play a significant role in her career, with Nash having produced most of her albums and Bill serving as a regular fixture in her live band.
"On this tour, we'll have the original band who performed on The Captain, and they've toured with me for years," she said.
"We've had several ups and downs together, and it's comfortable playing with a group of musicians who understand where the songs came from."
The Captain saw Chambers win her first ARIA Awards for Best Country Album and Best Female Artist, and the album broke the top 50 on the United States Billboard Country charts.
Chambers will be supported by emerging Australian artist Charlie Collins, whom she met in Tamworth when Collins was 10 years old.
"Collins got up and jammed with my Dad on This Flower [a song off The Captain], and we ended up sharing a memorable duet," she said.
"It's lovely to see Collins now releasing her own music as an adult, and it'll be a memorable show on many different levels."
Chambers' performance will get under way at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre from 8pm on Sunday. Tickets from bmec.com.au.
