SCOTT McLaughlin labelled his Ford Mustang a 'rocket ship' after clocking the quickest lap ever seen in a Supercar at Mount Panorama, but come next year he knows there will probably not be talk of rockets.

McLaughlin peeled off a blistering two minutes, 03.3783 seconds effort in Saturday afternoon's top 10 shootout to claim Bathurst pole position for the second time in his career.
But next year Supercars will introduce new technical specifications, meaning engines will drop horsepower and there will be less aero benefits.
It means McLaughlin's record mark is likely to stand for at least another year. Still, the man who went on to win Sunday's Bathurst 1000 says he and his fellow drivers will still push hard at Mount Panorama.
"You take grip away and less engine power, it's obviously going to go slower," he said.
"Whether it stays like that for ages or whether it doesn't, I don't really care. We all try and go the fastest we can with whatever we have."

Chaz Mostert, who placed second in the shootout and recorded his fastest ever lap at the circuit (2:03.5089) in Saturday's final practice, is not a fan of the changes.
"You want to see cars going faster and faster every year, records getting broken," he said.
"We're not going to quite have that any more. It will be probably slightly boring when it comes to qualifying, top 10s and stuff."
