THIS year's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 was a huge success, drawing a crowd of over 200,000 with more than 45,000 people attending the event each day. All campsites were sold out with 35,000 people camping on Mount Panorama.

The Saturday Street Fair was again a family favourite. Despite the cooler weather, thousands of people packed Kings Parade throughout the day to enjoy the range of activities available.
From the looks of the crowd in Kings Parade, attendance at the Saturday Street Fair is growing each year.
I would like to thank the race fans who camped at Mount Panorama and watched their water consumption during the Great Race.
Signs were placed on facilities around the campgrounds to remind people to make every drop count.
With extreme water restrictions now in place, council is continuing to do its part to conserve and preserve water while maintaining popular community parks and sporting facilities to a serviceable standard. Council has significantly changed watering practices at community parks and sporting facilities.
Council manages 305 parks and sporting grounds. Of these, 221 are not watered. The remaining parks and sporting grounds are on reduced watering schedules.
While a number of these facilities utilise raw water from Winburndale Dam, the reduced watering schedules will still be in place and are designed to keep highly utilised and popular community parks and sporting grounds usable and functional.
It is important that our residents and visitors continue to have spaces to enjoy, relax and to stay active and healthy.

Take a moment to consider our carers' contribution
IT'S National Carers' Week and the ideal time to acknowledge the carers in our community for the significant contribution they make.
These selfless and outstanding people provide invaluable support, often 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to their loved ones.
In short, National Carers' Week is all about saying thanks.
Carers provide unpaid help to someone who needs support due to disability, mental illness, dementia, chronic illness or frail age.
Remember, workplaces play an essential role in supporting carers. One in eight employees is an unpaid carer, which is a much larger group in our community than people might think.
Flexible, carer-friendly workplaces help staff balance the caring responsibilities with paid employment and that's absolutely critical to ensure long-term support.

Local Sport Grants Program
IT'S time to spread the word that applications opened this week for the NSW Government's $4.6 million Local Sport Grants Program.
The program, which is open until November 25, aims to increase regular and ongoing participation opportunities in sport and active recreation across the state.
This is important because these contribute significantly to our health, economy, social wellbeing and the liveability of our cities and communities.
Some of the aims of this year's program include targeting opportunities specifically for women and girls; overall participation opportunities; and support for communities affected by drought.
The minimum amount available is $250 for all project types, with the exception being for facility development, which has a minimum request of $1000.
The maximum available to any one organisation is $20,000 over a financial year.
