Orange City, CYMS and Bathurst City's wins were comfortably, St Pat's Old Boys was a thriller and Centennials' was a complete shock, they initially weren't going to field a side for lack of players but mustering just enough numbers they promptly knocked off the pre-season favourites.

ST PAT'S OLD BOYS (9-203) def CAVALIERS (201) by one wicket

St Pat's Old Boys skipper Adam Ryan played a timely captain's knock on Saturday afternoon, finishing unbeaten on 86 and guiding his Saints to a thrilling, one-wicket win over Orange-based heavyweights Cavaliers.

Chasing the maroons' 201, the Saints resumed at 3-42 but lost Josh Wilcox (17) reasonably early in the day, with Ryan joining Bailey Brien at the crease when he fell at 4-69.

Ryan and Brien (49) added 54 for fifth wicket but the latter's dismissal sparked a middle-order collapse, with Gus Cumming (5-47) running riot in a superb spinning performance on debut for his new club.

Including Brien, the Saints lost 4-25 and looked all but dead in the water at 8-148.

Ryan and Martin Rudgley (10) worked the score to 191, but with 11 left to get when the latter was bowled by Mitch Black (3-69), Cavaliers were still very much in the box seat.

But Ethan Ivory (2 not out) held up one end while Ryan nudged his side to victory, the pair knocking those required runs off to seal the round one win.

ORANGE CITY (4-347 declared) def CENTRALS (111 and 6-148) by 236 runs

Orange City skipper Ed Morrish elected to declare before the start of play on Saturday's second day, his side's 4-347 - adjusted from what was thought to be 352 last week - proving an unassailable target as Brett Causer went to work.

Backing up Dave Boundy's (132) monstrous effort with the bat on day one, Causer promptly took a 10-wicket game haul across Centrals' two innings, although it wasn't quite enough to secure his side an outright win.

Causer snared 5-22 in Centrals' first innings of just 111 - 54 of which came Ben Winslade's blade - before Morrish enforced the follow-on in search of an outright win.

Causer did everything he could to inspire maximum points, taking 5-31 as the red and blacks finished the day 6-148 in their second innings.

With Causer running riot, Rowan Dray (13 not out) remained stoic at one end and dead-batted for 47 overs while Fletcher Rose made an important 73 from the middle order to help stave that outright result off.

CENTENNIALS BULLS (9-280 declared) def CITY COLTS 227 by 53 runs

Centennials added another 22 to their overnight tally, moving from 7-258 to 9-280 before declaring and sending City Colts outfit into bat on a juicy Morse Park 1 wicket that was hit by Friday night's rain.

Colts were considered the pre-season favourites and despite having the most powerful top order in the competition, on paper at least, none could capitalise on starts and Centennials claimed wickets consistently to pick up a round one win.

The likes of Josh Toole, Henry Shoemark, Dave Sellers, Jaden Ekert and Pat Hill all made starts in the chase and Wayne Sellers notched a half-ton, but none went on to post a big score and Colts fell 53 short as a result, against a side that wasn't even initially nominated in the competition for lack of players.

CYMS (6-247 declared) def KINROSS (191 and 3-165) by eight wickets

Tom Belmonte held his nerve to notch his maiden first grade ton after resuming day two unbeaten on 76, the 20-year-old eventually finishing with 108 to inspire CYMS' easy, eight-wicket win over the students.

Belmonte and Angus Le Lievre (45) knocked off the 46 required for victory before both being dismissed in search of quick runs, skipper Hugh Le Lievre declared a 6-247 in a bid to potentially set up an outright result.

Kinross well and truly held them off though, the students battled away to finish 3-165 in their second dig with Will Luelf and James Larkin both notching half-tons, the side showing enough to suggest they won't roll over at all in 2019-20.

BATHURST CITY REDBACKS (3-198 declared) def RUGBY UNION (167 and 4-112) by nine wickets

JOEY Coughlan went into the second day of Bathurst City's meeting with Rugby Union within reach of a century, and he reached that mark to guide the Redbacks to victory.

Needing just 33 runs to pick up first innings points after a dominant opening day, Bathurst City skipper Coughlan worked his way to triple figures after resuming on 86 and completed the chase for 168 easily alongside Mark Day (40).

Coughlan finished with 130 and declared after he was dismissed, a sporting declaration considering his side was just 31 in front.

Rugby Union finished 4-112 when stumps were pulled, with no outright result looming.

Jameel Qureshi snuffed out Redbacks' hopes of an outright victory with his unbeaten 58 runs as opener, seeing out the entire 50 overs of play.

Redbacks' English spinner Harrison Craig made a big impression with 3-20 while Ben Orme picked up the other wicket.
