At around 11.25am police rescue, paramedics and the SES responded to the call out of an adult and seven kids stuck inside an elevator.
Zeak Smith, Rescue Officer with the Bathurst SES said when SES arrived police and ambulance were already on scene.
He said the lift was on the ground floor, but the doors wouldn't open. A specialist elevator key was required to open the door but there wasn't one on site.
"Normally police rescue would have a lift key however their key was damaged at a previous job. And we don't carry lift keys as standard issue.
"We contacted a number of other sites with lifts and fortunately CSU had one and were happy to let us use it.
While they key was en route from CSU, a site manager who had a key arrived and they were able to undo the door and free the family.
Mr Smith said the family were stuck in the lift for about 30 minutes and were given the all clear by paramedics.
"Everyone was fine, they were a little hot so we provided them all with water, but other than that they were okay."
Mr Smith said at all times the family were able to communicate verbally with rescuers at the scene.
"They were very calm," he said.
Mr Smith said as far as lift rescues go, this one was quite straight forward.
"The lift was on ground floor and it wasn't moving," he said.
