THE open air gallery that is the fence around the under-construction Bathurst Rail Museum has received some new artworks.

Students from around the district were asked to draw pictures of what they think the railway means to them or the impact it has had on the community and their efforts have been placed on the temporary fence around the work site.
The student artworks that were on the fence previously have been given to the respective schools - as will be the case with the latest artworks.

St Philomena's School student Kaiden Simpson said he took about a week to create his artwork of railwayman and former prime minister Ben Chifley in front of the Bathurst Railway Station.
Rockley Public student Indy Williams, meanwhile, said he got the idea for his picture, of a train stopping at the Bathurst platform, from a friend.
Cathedral School student Oscar Liston said he drew his picture, of a train passing over a bridge, quite quickly.
"I just drew it at lunchtime," he said.
Members of the community have the chance to support the museum by buying a replica brass engine plate with their family name on it and having it displayed in the facility.
Small and large plaques are available.

The Bathurst Rail Museum is due to open in February next year.
Construction began in November last year.
