O'Malley had carded rounds of 68 and 69 over the opening two days of the Legends Tour event at the Richmond Golf Club to sit in tied sixth spot heading into the final round.
He began that final round with a birdie on the par-five first hole then strung together four consecutive birdies from the fourth to the seventh to rocket up the leaderboard.
While he dropped a shot with a bogey on the 11th, his sixth birdie on the 16th kept him in reach of the lead.
But it was Peter Senior, who emulated O'Malley's five-under 65, who claimed the trophy by one shot.
He finished the three days at nine-under, while O'Malley and Peter Fowler shared second placed at eight-under.
"I've been close on a couple of occasions and to win against the calibre of this field is amazing," Senior said.
"I still enjoy playing but I like to give back playing on the Legends, playing here at Richmond has been really fun.
"The guys on this tour are great and we have some fantastic tournaments."
