AN aggressive, unbeaten 137 from Cooper Brien has helped Saint Stanislaus' College continue its impressive start to the 2019-20 Independent Sporting Association's division one cricket competition.
After downing Oakhill College by two wickets in round one, a match in which Brien spearheaded the chase with 86, Stannies backed that up with a commanding 306-run victory over Blue Mountains Grammar School.
Stannies won the toss and elected to bat first at Chevalier College's main oval and what followed was a dominant batting display as the Bathurst outfit scored at more than a run-a-ball across its 50 overs.
Openers Blake Kreuzberger (34) and Jack Goodsell (85) saw the score into triple figures before Blue Mountains made its first breakthrough with the ball.
But it was a rare moment of joy for Blue Mountains. The score ticked over to 145 before Goodsell fell, but that saw Brien arrive at the crease.
Together Brien and Ethan Muller (69 not out) batted out the remainder of the innings, helping Stannies to an imposing 2-343.
The duo put on an unbeaten 198, eclipsing Stannies' best season 2018-19 third-wicket partnership of 133 between Bailey Brien and Ben Mitchell. In fact the effort ranks as the best third-wicket partnership in the ISA division one competition in a decade.
The Stannies bowling attack then made short work of Blue Mountains, securing the win in the 18th over.
