Redbacks started the opening round of the revived joint-city competition with a first innings win against town rivals Rugby Union.
But Redbacks came across its first hurdle of the new season when they went down to last season's Orange District Cricket Association first grade grand finalists Cavaliers on Saturday gone.
Redbacks were dismissed for 182, before the Orange-based declared at 7-313 at Wade Park. Cavaliers weren't able to dismiss Bathurst City again, the Redbacks finishing the second day at 3-106.
But there's been one player at Redbacks that has starred with the bat across the opening two rounds - Joey Coughlan.
The Redbacks skipper hit a century in his first innings of the summer, scoring 130 on his team's way to victory against Rugby.
And while Redbacks went down to Cavaliers on Saturday gone, he scored 77 and 58 as the opening batsman in the first and second innings respectively.
He's credited his fine start to the new season to his new bat and that the club also purchased a bowling machine, which has given him more balls to face in practice.
"I've got myself a new stick and I think it's made the difference," he said.
Coughlan will be hoping to carry his good form into Saturday's game against Centennials Bulls.
Bulls are the only Bathurst club undefeated after two rounds, after picking up wins against City Colts and Orange team Centrals.
"It's only two rounds in, so it's pretty hard to call things just yet. But we've got Oxs [Centennials] this weekend and I think I said at the start of the season, I wouldn't be surprised for them to give it to a couple of teams," he said.
"They've got a captain Kurt Toole that I've sort of grew up around the same sort of age group as him. He's turned them around, by the looks of it. That's good for them. A lot of people thought they were going to struggle."
Saturday's game is at the Sportsground and Coughlan said the wicket is in fine shape.
"It looks bloody amazing. Hats off to the ground staff and the council," he said.
"I think it's actually looking better than Wade Park at the moment, which is usual for us."
