Did you know that it's the first survey of Australian tapestries to include artwork created by Australian artists before the establishment of the Australian Tapestry Workshop in 1976?
Or that the exhibition features five tapestries woven at workshops in Portugal and France?
Or that one of the tapestries - John Coburn's The four seasons of nature: Autumn 1987 - has been displayed in France, Italy, Denmark and Turkey, and in Australia at the Art Gallery of NSW in 1990 and toured to four galleries, including BRAG in 1992.
Threads Through Art is a celebration of Australian art through the tapestry medium. It features 18 tapestries designed by prominent artists, including Sidney Nolan, Arthur Boyd, Janet Laurence, Nell, David Noonan, John Olsen, William Robinson, Arlene TextaQueen and John Wolseley.
Meanwhile, Bathurst-based textile artist Heather Dunn undertook a Hill End Artist-in-Residence at Murray's Cottage in September 2017. The resulting tapestries are showcased in her must-see Palette of Place exhibition at BRAG.
She will conduct a weaving demonstration on Saturday, November 23 at 11am. Be inspired by Heather as she hosts a free guided hands-on tapestry weaving experience.
Diary note: Join us for a curator's tour on Saturday, November 16 at 11am.
Come along with BRAG curator Emma Collerton as she discusses the history of tapestry in Australian art and the collaborations between the artists and weavers.
