The 2020 season was officially unveiled at BMEC last night, with 18 bold and innovative productions set to challenge audience's ears, eyes and minds.
A host of new production companies have been added to the season's itinerary alongside returning favourites such as the Australian Haydn Ensemble and Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Centre manager Stephen Champion said the season will, in a first for BMEC, include two immersive lighting installations to team with the Bathurst Winter Festival.
"Patch Theatre's Firefly Forest and Glow will invite the community to interact with light and enter a vibrant new world," Mr Champion said.
"The installations will be free of charge to attend and is sure to enhance the Winter Festival experience."
For the third year in a row, BMEC's season will include a Local Stages-backed production, with Miranda Gott's Kangaroo set to examine the concepts of solitude, strength, survival and death.
"We're always increasing our focus on supporting local activities in the realm of performing arts," Mr Champion said.
"It's great to see local works debut on the main stage here and it serves as a launch pad for the productions to travel elsewhere.
"We're hoping to establish a more intimate space for performances in the coming years, and Bathurst Regional Council has employed consultants to look at the sorts of performing arts facilities we'll need in the future."
The season will also feature a performance from revered Australian musician Karen Knowles [From the Heart], who started her career on Young Talent Time in the 1970s.
"Knowles will be here during Seniors' Week, and she will also feature at the Inland Sea of Sound festival as part of the Wiradyuri Welcome to Country performance," Mr Champion said.
"Her new album, Solid Ground, features three sacred songs from the Wirradjirri Indigenous people, which made her inclusion an apt decision."
